How long does it take to develop a site?
Anywhere from 6 weeks to 6 months, depending on the size and complexity-- and your ability to make decisions required to advance the process. Larger sites are often developed in phases.

How can I update and manage my website?

How do you deal with requests for changes?
Your project scope is carefully defined in our proposal. But it's impossible to produce a 100% complete scope of work before we begin. We have to make assumptions, one of which is that change requests are a normal part of the process. Fortunately, you can make many of the changes and additions yourself. Our Refinery CMS content manager makes it easy to edit content and add new pages at any time.

Some changes are minor and do not affect the cost or project schedule. The timing of your request can make a big difference. Changes in the design phase are typically easier to implement without additional cost than changes made during production and testing.

We often use the analogy of building a house to help our clients understand the process. If during the design phase, you decide you'd like a door between two rooms, it's pretty simple to modify the drawings. But if you make that decision after the wall is built, the time and expense will be greater.

For this reason, we don't proceed from design to production until we have your sign-off. When changes come up, we'll help you understand their implications. If necessary, we'll issue a change order describing the scope of the change and its impact on the schedule and budget.

Sometimes, we'll suggest changes be designated for a future phase so as not to delay the project launch. Change is the very nature of a website: a site that's not changing is probably not as effective as it could be. But uncontrolled change leads to delays, difficulties, and unnecessary expense.

How much does a website cost?
The cost depends on its size and complexity, and the range of services you need. Our custom-designed websites range from $7,500 to $50,000 (USD). To provide an accurate estimate we need to work with you to define your project scope. If the cost of your "wish list" exceeds your budget we're happy to develop your project in phases. The one thing we won't do is compromise on quality.

We request a non-refundable retainer to begin work, with monthly payments based on work completed. Your retainer is applied to your final invoice.
